This essay discusses the role of software testers in the Volkswagen emmissions testing scandal. It raises interesting questions about what testers should do if they see that the product they are testing breaks the law, as could happen in any situation where software is being developed in a regulated environment. This is a problem that the testing community has not addressed.

I followed up the first article with a second post that expanded on my views of the responsibilities of auditors and testers.
